Apple introduces new personal health features: All the details

NEW DELHI: Apple announced the next version of its operating system for iPhones, iPads and Apple Watch— iOS 15, iPadOS 15, watchOS 8 respectively at its ongoing annual developer conference -- WWDC 2021. Along with latest operating system versions, the company also previewed some advanced consumer health and wellness insights for users.

Apple announced that iOS 15 will give users the ability to securely share their data with important people in their life, like a family member or physician, and receive insights into the health trends of their loved ones. Along with this, the new tools in iOS 15 can be used to identify, measure, and understand changes in a person’s health.

“This past year has emphasized the importance of health, and we’re enabling our users to take a more active role in their well-being. We’ve added powerful features that give users the most comprehensive set of insights to better understand their health trends over time,” Apple said in a release.

Share your health data with family

With iOS 15, users will be able to choose to securely give a loved one visibility into their health and wellness data, enabling them to have more meaningful conversations and provide support.

In the health app, users will find a new Sharing tab which allows them to privately share their data with a trusted partner.

Users will have full control over the data they share and with whom. For the person receiving this information, shared data is presented with important insights and trends highlighted.

Additionally, with user permission, the Health app can keep track of valuable information, helping bridge the gap of what a person experiences between clinic appointments.

Maintain personal wellness record

The Health app will now add trend analysis for 20 types of data — ranging from resting heart rate to sleep to cardio fitness — so users can easily see how a given metric is progressing and help users in maintaining a personal wellness record. The company said that Trends will proactively highlight important changes, and surface the information in a way that’s easy to understand.

iPhone will now help reduce the risk of falling down

Apart from the above mentioned features, Apple has also introduced the Walking Steadiness feature on iPhone. The feature will provide insight into fall risk by capturing important mobility data as users walk with their iPhone.

Walking Steadiness offers the added ability to capture everyday movements and surface classifications within the Health app as OK, Low, or Very Low, allowing users to proactively take action to help reduce their risk of falling. The feature uses custom algorithms to assess balance, stability, and coordination through built-in motion sensors on iPhone.
